Cheers, mate!

Don't you feel annoyed by Britons who constatly call you 'mate' :?: (if you are a man of course). I know that I'm twenty-sth and I don't expect the barman/cashier to call me 'sir', but still. A guy from the broadband company came to us the other day to fix the net - he was here for like 15 minuts and he was able to call me 'mate' like 20 times :???:
And, of course - 'cheers'... Can't they say 'thanks' or 'bye'... I can't get it.

I prefer

to hear "cheers mate" or sth like that, than only "bu" or "buu" from f.ex. angry community worker.

They prefer life on OKAY level but in Poland people have rather "how do you feel? badly" style.

Maybe You should get pack your stuffs and go back to Poland?
Maybe it's just more suitable country for You?

That's the point I don't get it.

chill out, mate  .
I didn't mean to insult anyone, and I don't want to say that the Polish-style complaining is the best way. Yet,
1. I don't feel we should be happy about everything Britons do (nor we should be all-complaing)
2. 'mate' is sometimes just to informal for me - I feel a bit akward being treated as if I were to be everyone's 'mate'.

ps. 'stuff" is uncountable

yep

maybe "stuff" is unc. but they still speak non_english english. Have you never heard "many stuffs"? I can hear that every second day :)

now I know what did you mean ;-) sometimes it makes crazy mind but.. that's they think, do, live. just because, imho.

i thinkt that "mate" is alright;] it dosen't show that somebody treats you like shit but like his/her mate;p it's the same like somebody older than you would say: "you right, kid?";] and you can answer: shut up, old fellow;p

Calling me 'mate' gets on my nerves. It's like one doesn't know your name, isn't it?
You can be called 'mate' by your manager or friend- but I find it rather offensive and that person who says that doesn't really care. You're like every other person to him/her.
Don't mind 'cheers', though. It simply replaces 'thanks', 'bye' or whatever else.
But really loooove 'ta'- shorter word for 'thank you'. Didn't like it at the very start when I heard it bu t now..
And 'ta-ra' for 'bye bye' is lovely as well.

Yeah! I don't care with that. It's ok for me, normal. It's like MR in Poland. Everybody called me MR. Then Whatever.

everybody called you mr in poland?;] funny, mate;p didn't you feel old? i prefer "enlgish style" where everybody are on the same level without any bloody slection. you can say: "hello john!" and it doesn't matter how old john is. is he 11,20,50 or 89. doesn't matter.

"sir, you are better sir, please come here sir - and you kid stay in the end, in the end i said! you punk."

never mind.

I just don't like calling me 'mate' unnecessarily!
I'm not everyone's mate, darling.

That's what I meant :!: It's ok in certain situations - like when sb buys you a drink or you ask for directions etc. But when I call a call centre and the person who I've never seen calls me 'mate' it's just... strange :???:
But maybe I'm just old-fashioned...
